About the exhibition Sibling life

The exhibition is a combination of classical black & white illustrations carried out with a pen and ink and pencil on aquarelle-paper and three-dimensional paper objects, folded in the same aquarelle-paper which is subsequently illustrated with pen and ink, pencil and some of them even with ink colour.

Theresa Maria tells;

These three-dimensional objects create some rooms or scenarios that, due to the extra layers, create a depth in what is told that is both compelling and catchy. No form of patterns, templates or similar have been used, but the folded objects are actually folded directly from an idea and into the paper. Thus, an immediate expression appears, that, in the eyes of others

may be conceived as “flawed”, but that I consider to be interesting misalignments that make the paper alive and emphasizes my personal expression.

The paper objects, with the classical drawings, constitute a story of the daily lives of a pair of siblings, shown through moments of their lives lived with the opportunities that exist in the countryside.

The exhibition is a form of quotations from their lives as children and as siblings. A fleeting insight in a random childhood where comments are also made with reference to children’s and, in particular, siblings’ interrelated lives and their journey with a focus on the experiences they make in rural or natural surroundings.

My original wish for the exhibition was to focus on this connection and the life that I conceive and see in nature, regardless of time, season, weather or interference from people. In addition, I wanted to illustrate children’s experiences and immediate relationship with nature in contrast to all the ages that follow after childhood where man no longer is a part of nature, but most of all consumes nature.

The work process

For me, it is all about finding the constructive, relevant story and relate it from a personal point of view, where I am driven by my own integration and experience of the content I have chosen. By mediating these personal experiences in a - hopefully rewarding and reflective manner - it may be done.
